The island of Bali, Indonesia

I’m skipping ahead in order to update more real time on where I am now, which is just leaving beautiful Bali. I’ll go back and get the rest of Italy up soon I promise, especially because the last two weeks were with Bob and then we met the girls in Rome for the last week.

Last Friday I left Rome and headed to Indonesia to visit my friend Rolande. Ro lives in Jakarta and works for the World Bank doing fabulous things to help Indonesia. I met Ro in the Jakarta airport and we jumped on a quick flight to the island of Bali, one of Indonesia’s 17,000 islands which gets 50% of the tourism that comes to the country. Bali is so well known worldwide that many people don’t realize that Bali is not a country, but is a part of Indonesia.

For the few days I had, Rolande organized an amazing survey of the key experiences on the island for me. We started with a two night stay on the beach at the Hilton Bali Nusa Dua. The hotel, like many in this area, is built on the face of a cliff expanding down to the beach level with breathtaking views.

After settling in and enjoying the breeze and the view we headed out for some dinner at one of Ro’s favorite local Indonesian restaurants. Delicious!

We ended the evening with the best massages ever! After traveling for two days it was a great way to end the day. As I was going to bed that Saturday night Bob and the girls were waking up in West Palm Saturday morning. Bizarre – Bali is 12 hours ahead of the US east coast.
