We had a beautiful morning and lunch in Whitby which brought back many memories of trips with my grandparents to this lovely fishing town in the North Yorkshire Moors. We began with a gambol around the grounds of the Abbey ruins with lovely views of the town below. A brief visit to St Mary’s Church on the site where I lit some candles and said prayers for Hope, Lily and Bob. We then enjoyed a walk down the 199 steps from the Abbey to the town below where we enjoyed Haddock and Chips (with no adverse effects to me) at Trenchers, my grandparents favorite fish and chip restaurant. Then we had to have a mad dash up the steps on the other side of the town for pictures featuring the whale bone which forms an entrance to the north side of the town before joining the rest of the crew on the coach.

The ruined Abbeys look just like some of the settings for the Nintendo game Breath of the Wild… Which sounds belittling but is not meant to be. The foundations for so much popular art is found in the old and ancient places of the world. As an editor, I wish our society as a whole would make it a priority to list our sources! Haha – beautiful images as always Mich!

Whitby also famous among Dracula fans because Bram Stoker used Whitby as his inspiration for where the ship ran aground.
