Santa de Maria del Fiore – Il Duomo!

Yes another beautiful church, well we are in Florence 😉. Yesterday afternoon (Monday) we had tickets to the most famous one in Florence – Santa de Maria del Fiore (of the flowers). But I chickened out and did not climb the 463 steps of the teeny tiny staircase to the top of the dome, but my hero Bob did!! I’ll show you why I just couldn’t with some of Bob’s pictures of the hallway space. I have done it once and that I decided would have to be enough.

The climb, which I would suffer through the steps but ouch not that tight space, just looking at it makes me hyper-ventilate!

Beautiful mosaic floor of the early church with a peacock in honor of the African artists that created the mosaic floors. Again this is down in the crypt space.
I liked this family crest of hedgehogs – crests would be put on the top of the tombs. They did not have graveyards, but were buried in the church if they were important and wealthy enough.
Light a candle, say a prayer and it’s time for tea and a well deserved cappuccino for Roberto!
