Today has been a cold and rainy day, perfect for spending hours in the archeological museum which was quite the treasure trove of things found, bought, donated, borrowed, and stolen from others, or “saved” “interpreted” and “preserved”. Well it was pretty amazing and we learned a lot!
The square you enter from..Front door of MuseumGorgeous bronze Etruscan Chimera – lady monster of course!Etruscan lady atop what was her tomb.Lovely jewelry More Etruscan tombs…Lion guarding a tomb, or he tried to!Not sure, but she is lovely!Medici corridor between the museum which was a home and the adjacent church. The corridor now houses a stunning collection of Medici cameos, gems and seals.
And then we connect to the Egyptian portion of the Museum…
You don’t even want to know what went in these…He loved his wife so much he took two of her to the afterworld. This guy brought his chariot along, turns out it is only one still in existence from that time!LovelyI would want my favorite hippo in the afterlife with me too!And the two key collectors for the Florence museum and the Louvre memorialized their visit to Egypt with a painting of themselves and the new additions to the collection!
We ended our visit with the coin collection which was impressive and all donated by some very generous numismatists (coin collectors). We never made it to the third floor, it had already been 4 hours and we were ready to sit and refuel!
